Back Pain Centers of America (BPC) is the nation’s largest network connecting patients seeking surgical consultations for neck and back pain to highly qualified, specialty orthopedic centers. To date, BPC has helped more than 20,000 people find relief. Because patient experience and safety are top priority, BPC only accepts board-certified physicians who meet certain criteria such as having available surgical capacity. BPC is currently taking new applications from orthopedic practices in specific states and cities.
Brent Wheeler is the President of Back Pain Centers of America. He leads the strategy and business operations of the organization. Back Pain Centers of America was founded with the vision that Brent had after working with clients like Laser Spine Institute, North American Spine and other national orthopedic spine surgery facilities.
His vision was to bring his knowledge of marketing and operational infrastructure along with best practices of patient recruitment to local and regional physician’s groups and hospitals. Brent’s vision has led patient recruitment strategies that have increased patient volume over 300% while decreasing patient acquisition costs through marketing and operational efforts for numerous practices and hospital groups.
With more than 17 years of experience in direct response communications in healthcare and managing a customer acquisition division that is focused on educating patients, Brent has forged strong internal and external business partnerships and is seen as an expert in the healthcare communications space. He has a firm understanding of direct response principles to create strategies that drive strong contributions to the financial health of orthopedic practices through volume while, at the same time, providing an incomparable patient service experience.
Brent joined the parent company, ResponseMine Inc. in 2004, launching Back Pain Centers of America to focus on educating patients searching for orthopedic treatment options, and building a world-class network of physicians, surgical centers and hospitals to serve patients in need. Prior to this, Brent worked at Google at a Client Service Manger and was charged with creating digital strategies with his clients.
Brent has a Bachelor’s of Business Administration in Marketing from University of North Georgia and is certified in leadership development training at Dale Carnegie.
Quintin Thomas serves as the Director of Physician Partnerships at Back Pain Centers of America (BPC). He works directly with physicians' groups to help determine if a partnership could benefit the practice and the BPC network of patients. Quintin manages our relationships with new physician groups, making sure that they are able to best leverage the BPC network.
Prior to joining BPC, Quintin served as a Regional Manager for Zocdoc Inc. Zocdoc is an online physician scheduling service that allows patients to book their own real-time appointments with doctors that meet their search criteria. he joined Zocdoc when it was a startup with only a small presence outside of NYC. He was instrumental in growing Zocdoc's presence in the Southeast into a comprehensive directory of thousands of physicians across over 40 specialties. He has also been a financial planner and achieved his series 6, 7 and 63 licenses.
Quintin graduated from the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill with a BA in American History.
Erika Rosenthal serves as Vice-President, Strategy and Healthcare Partnerships. Erika has 20 years in healthcare, both as an Ambulatory Surgery Center Administrator and as a patient educator. She works closely with the member partners to help increase awareness, lower healthcare operating costs, and use analytics to make solid growth decisions. Her passion is in helping to make the patient journey a positive experience.
Previously, Erika was Senior Vice President of Marketing for Okyanos Heart Institute and the Laser Spine Institute (LSI), and Vice President and Executive Director running LSI's Ambulatory Surgical Center in Philadelphia. She has a deep understanding of what it takes to drive a P&L operation having managed budgets from under $1M to well over $100M. Erika has worked with Private Equity and Venture Capital groups as a retained executive or consultant for many years in order to help companies scale quickly and acquire new customers/patients.
Erika has a B.A. and M.B.A. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and a second Master's in Digital Marketing from the University of San Francisco. She completed executive education programs at Wharton School of Business and at Cornell University. Erika has lived or worked in six countries providing her with a global business perspective.
David Secrest is Senior Vice President of Media & Operations. David leads a diverse team that executes and supports a best-in-class patient experience across media and call center services. David’s leadership during the launch of Back Pain Centers of America played a significant role in the development of our proprietary Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system which facilitates positive interactions and maintains regulatory compliance between our member board-certified physicians and surgical candidates.
Prior to Back Pain Centers of America, David spent ten years leading customer acquisition campaigns in the verticals of Health, Home, and Web Services. David has worked across multiple highly regulated and complex markets for clients such as CIGNA, AvMed, Clarian Health Plans and Laser Spine Institute. He holds a bachelor's degree in Management Information Systems from the University of Georgia.
Eric Rehm is Director, Call Center Operations. He is responsible for the day-to-day operations and improved performance of call center operations. Prior to Back Pain Centers of America, Eric was Renewals Supervisor with American Home Shield, a Servicemaster Company, for twelve years.
Eric is passionate about providing a service to truly help people get back to their way of life, and connecting surgeons with patients in need. His mission is to help provide an experience the prospective patient will remember positively.
He is a graduate of Des Moines Area Community College with an A.A.S. in Graphic Design, and is currently working towards a Bachelor of Applied Studies, Business Administration and Management at University of Iowa.
Andrew Baum is Vice President of Partner Management at Back Pain Centers of America (BPC) where he is responsible for directing the marketing and communication strategy for the healthcare and other industry clients which includes the management of relationships and supervision for all accounts. As a direct response and call center veteran, Andrew is also responsible for Back Pain Centers of America’s first-class call center operations.
Andrew brings over 25 years of direct response marketing expertise to BPC. Prior to BPC, he was an 11 year veteran and Vice President at Optima Direct/Rapp Collins, and the founder of Baum Communications, a direct marketing agency specializing in the integration of offline and online direct marketing channels. Andrew brings an established record of accomplishment in planning, developing and executing marketing strategies. He is a graduate of State University of New York at Oneonta with a BS in Political Science.
Sam Heery is a Junior Account Manager. Sam assists in developing and maintaining client relationships on a day-to-day basis, in all facets from general communications to supporting strategic planning sessions. He assists in the management of all interactive campaign cycles, from research and planning to optimization and analysis. During his first six months with the company, he focused solely on analytics which helps him provide extra value to the clients and team.
Prior to joining Back Pain Centers of America, Sam was a student at Emory University, where he graduated with his Bachelors of Business Administration concentrating in Marketing and Operations Management. He played basketball all four years at Emory, and comes from a family of physicians and orthopedic surgeons which has allowed him to quickly understand the importance of ethical and clear patient communication.
Amanda Sparks serves as the Business Development Manager at BPC. She joined the company in 2011, and helps to educate physician’s groups on changes in health consumerism and provides them with solutions to communicate healthcare options in the ever changing digital world. Amanda has a passion for healthcare education and works closely with surgical practices to reach more people with information on their treatment options.
Prior to her role in business development, Amanda focused on implementing strategic recruiting and talent management initiatives and streamlining the hiring process from entry to senior level positions. She has worked at length within the Atlanta digital marketing community and is a board member of the Atlanta Interactive Marketing Association (AIMA).
Amanda received her B.A. from Virginia Tech majoring in Communication with a specialization in Public Relations and Consumer Studies.
